THINGS.

Well... we did it! We successfully moved to our new apartment and are settled almost unpacked (and once we are, I will post photos)! This time around, I hired movers to help us unload the Uhaul because there's a 1/2 flight of stairs leading up to our door. I paid for two hours and they left after about 45 minutes, but I am still SO glad I hired them (even if I overpaid by an hour). The overall experience was much less stressful because of this, but also because we knew that this time was (fingers crossed) the last time for a couple of years.

In the process of moving, we realized HOW MANY THINGS we have. Our last apartment was a 2-bedroom, and downsizing to a 1-bedroom was a surprising process. As it stands, we have about 1/3 of our belongings in storage (although, to be honest, I probably could count on one hand the things that I know we have in storage) and, after unpacking, found a number of other things that we don't have space for or need.

It made us both think a lot about why we have as much as we do. Is it because we expand our belongings to match the size of our home? While I'm sure that's true, I can't help but wonder why we even have so many things that just take up space. Is it worth owning something that serves no purpose?

When the time comes for us to move into a house, I'm sure we will find room for all of these misfit items (and then some), but I plan to remind myself as often as possible to keep things that have a purpose and discard the rest.

The same can be said for people, I think - some are worth having in your life and others just take up space and don't add any value. My apologies if that sounds harsh, but I think it's true!
