The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

Dear baby girl,

You gave me a bit of a scare recently! I woke up very early on Wednesday morning (2am or so) to pains in my upper abdomen. I tried to ignore them and go back to sleep, but they persisted for about 30 minutes, during which time I of course woke up your daddy and moaned in pain. It didn't seem painful enough to warrant a hospital visit, and because I was able to fall back asleep I assume that everything was fine.

The next day at work, the pains came back. My sweet co-worker Linda encouraged me to call my doctor's office, and they asked me to come in for an appointment.

I won't give you all of the details, but they checked me over and determined that all was well - my blood pressure was perfect and I didn't have any protein in my urine (which can be a sign of pre-eclampsia). To be safe, though, the doctor asked me to have an ultrasound. He suspected that your positioning is what caused my pain, but wanted to make sure.

I wasn't expecting an ultrasound, but I was really excited that I'd be able to see you! I said a quiet prayer that everything was okay, and the ultrasound technician pointed out all of your limbs and organs and adorable features (hands, feet, face, etc.) while taking measurements. She said that everything looked good and that you are about 3 lbs. 2 oz. and over 15 inches long! She then switched the image over from 2D to 3D and I was able to see your adorable face. To be honest, my first thought was that you look a little bit like your grandpa, but your grandma thinks that you look like me.

Whichever is the case, you are absolutely beautiful. As you read this, I hope you know that!

Love,
Mommy
