Hitting the Rhode
Dear Baby Charlotte,
This past weekend was a very exciting one. On Saturday morning, your daddy and I packed up the car (with more stuff than we have EVER traveled with before) and took your on your first ever road trip! Since your Auntie Christine & Uncle Jordan have come to visit us in NY many times over the past year, we were long overdue for a visit to see them. Now that you're six months old and a bit easier to transport, we thought it would be fun to spend a weekend in Rhode Island.
Your daddy & I used to live in Rhode Island. It's where I got my master's degree and met your Auntie & Uncle. We loved it there. The only thing missing, though, was our family. We're really happy to be back in western NY but we miss the state of Rhode Island very much. It is incredibly beautiful (it's the ocean state, after all) and is home to our favorite coffee, bagels, and our best friends.
Since you had never been in the car longer than 45 minutes, we weren't sure how you'd handle the 6 hour ride to Cranston. But you pleasantly surprised us! I hung out with you in the backseat while daddy drove. We took a few stops to eat, get gas, change your diaper and breastfeed you, but made pretty good timing. We were at their house by about 4:00.
I love you,

On
our first night there, we got settled in our room and enjoyed a cookout
with some other friends. You went to bed really well but ended up
snuggling with us a little later in the night.
On
Sunday, we met daddy's old co-worker for coffee & bagels at our
favorite bagel place, Cafe Such-a-Bagel. (We also bought ourselves 2
dozen bagels to take home!) We stopped by our townhouse, where we lived
for the year prior to moving to Rochester, and took you on a nice long
walk through our old neighborhood. Then, we went down to South County
(which isn't really a county but consists of the southernmost region of
the state) to meet some friends at the Mews, an awesome restaurant that
we used to frequent for Sunday-night trivia. After lunch, we met my old
friend/co-worker/boss from URI in Narragansett and enjoyed a beautiful
view of the ocean.
At
this point, we were pretty tired, so we drove through URI's campus
(instead of walking, which was our original plan) where we reminisced
about how much fun we had when we all lived about 50 steps from one
another. Then, on Monday on our way our of town, we met my old boss
outside of Springfield, MA and enjoyed lunch visiting with her.
We
had such a great trip. It was so much fun visiting with old friends,
breathing in some ocean air, and seeing the beauty that is southern New
England.
Until next time, Rhode Island!
I love you,
Mommy
