It Comes in Threes
Dear Charlotte,
This year (all five weeks of it) have been kind of difficult. First, you had your surgery. Thankfully, it went as well as it possibly could have and you've recovered well. Your nose looks AMAZING, and I am in awe of your surgeon's skills. You still have a few tiny stitches that will dissolve at any time, but no one could ever tell by looking at you now that you used to have a cyst on the bridge of your nose. Thank God for how quickly you healed!
But... a few short days after your surgery, I got a call when I was at work from your great aunt Elaine (who was babysitting you) telling me that you had vomited a couple of times. I rushed out of my office and got home to you. You poor, poor baby - you couldn't keep anything down for a couple of hours so your daddy & I made the decision to bring you to the ED in case you were dehydrated. Thankfully, you weren't, and a few days later you were back to normal. But then your daddy and aunt Elaine both got sick and so did your Nana, who walked right into the eye of the storm when she came over to make sure that you were doing alright. I somehow escaped it (a miracle if I ever saw one!) but did my best to care for everyone else.
THEN... a week or so later, your grandma Jeanette fell and broke her foot in three different places. Tomorrow she will be having surgery on her foot which will mean a long eight weeks of recovery. Unfortunately, for you, me, and your grandma, that means that she isn't available to babysit you on Fridays like usual. We'll all miss her, but hope that her recovery is a quick one.
Your daddy bought me a "weekend getaway" as my Christmas gift, which had been planned since mid-December, and it happened to be this weekend. You were in good hands with your Nana & Papa and your daddy and I enjoyed an overnight trip to Niagara Falls where we played penny slots, ate a delicious dinner at the Niagara Culinary Institute, and went to see "American Sniper" at the movie theater. It was so much fun, and we truly enjoyed connecting and making memories, but it was our first time away from you overnight and we missed you like CRAZY. You were happy when we got home, but you were obviously having a great time without us!
They say that "bad things" come in threes. I don't know if that's true, but I'm hopeful that things continue to look up from here.
I love you,
Mommy
