Celebrating a Year of Marriage

By the time Sean and I finally tied the knot last June, we had been dating for almost five-and-a-half years. At that point in our relationship, we felt like we truly knew just about everything about each other. We had lived together for a year-and-a-half, had seen each other at our best and (very) worst, and had supported each other through some of the most difficult moments of our lives.

Well, it turns out that our first year of marriage was a learning experience unlike what I had expected. I learned more about my husband every day, but the most important thing I learned is that the commitment I made to him is one that I intend to keep. I love him so.

When it comes to gifts for our anniversary, Sean likes the idea of sticking to tradition for our anniversary gifts, so I've been trying to find something "paper" related to give to him. While searching online for ideas, I read something that explained the reason for the "paper" tradition.

"Paper was chosen to symbolically represent the first wedding year anniversary because of the tremendous strength of the many fibers which bind paper into a solitary sheet."

So, to please my sentimental husband by sticking with the "paper" theme, I have decided to purchase a journal that can serve as our "Anniversary Journal." Every year, we can write about what we did to celebrate that particular anniversary, and also write a few memories/reflections on the previous year of marriage.

Here's hoping that he loves it!
