Resolutions
This past New Year's Eve, I told myself (and my husband) that I was going to make 2013 an "easy" year for resolutions and only make 2 that I reasonably thought I could keep. Those resolutions were:
to lose weight (obviously...) and to write in my journal every day.
As January is approaching its end, I have some resolution updates and some new ones to share. The weight loss is happening (slowly but surely) and as I write this I am still as committed as ever to making this year THE year that I actually accomplish my weight loss goal.
Surprisingly, I'm still right on track with my journal. I have written in it every day this year (so far!) and hope to continue.
But I have also realized some other things that I would like to publicly acknowledge as resolutions for the rest of 2013.
1. Read more. Although I own a LOT of books and even make frequent trips to the library, I spend much more of my down time watching TV than I do reading. I've made a modest goal on Goodreads to read at least 30 books this year, and since I'm already on #2, I think it'll be pretty doable.
2. Stick to our budget. We I have made one that will put us in our really comfortable place by the fall, so the goal is to do everything we can to make smart money decision that will get us to where we hope to be.
3. Have more date nights. My husband & I spend a lot of time together. When we're not working, we're usually cooking or cleaning or watching TV or going for a walk (the list goes on)...but we rarely have romantic outings or explore the area unless we're with friends. Thankfully, we have lots of great friends that are a blast to spend time with, but we have both comitted to going out once per week - just the two of us.
4. Get rid of unnecessary stuff and maintain a clean and organized home. Ok, so I'm pretty proud of the fact that I already do this pretty well.I We frequently clean & organize our apartment, but there are still many things I'd like to sort out. Namely, we have a lot of crap belongings in storage that we need to prioritize, and our kitchen supplies are getting out of control. If we had a huge chef's kitchen I wouldn't be concerned, but since we have a very tiny 1/2 galley kitchen, there just isn't the space.
Perhaps I will add to this as the year goes on, but I hope to revisit this in December and feel pride in the fact that I completed my goals and made my life better in the process.

I'm with you on some of these!
ReplyDeleteI also made a goal on goodreads- 30 books? You can do it!
#4 is one I really need to practice.. It's easy to hold onto things or stash stuff away in a drawer!
Good luck :)
Thanks, Jaz! I appreciate the support!

I think that is so great that you have written in your journal every day! I write a lot on my blog so I have kind of been using that as an excuse to not write in my journal but I need to stop and just dedicate the time to my journal that it needs. Thanks for being an inspiration to do it. Just found your blog and have enjoyed your writing! I'm excited to read more.

Bonnie,
DeleteThanks for your message - the journal, so far, is still going strong and I'm already having a blast revisiting the past month :)
