House Hunting

Please pardon my unintended hiatus from blogging, but my hubby & I have been actively house hunting recently! Initially it was the pre-approval process that seemed to be taking a lot of time, but once we were comfortable with our financing options (and our amazing interest rate - woohoo!) we began narrowing down online listings to determine which homes we should view in person. Our initial list of 5 "favorites" quickly decreased to 2, because 3 of the homes sold within one week of being listed. Our realtor suggested that we look at homes that were on our "maybe" list (since our "favorites" were specifically diminishing!) and so we added some additional homes and looked at 5 of them on Sunday.

Well... we found one that we loved (a "standout" that really had almost all of our wishlist items and was very near where we currently live - yay for knowing the neighborhood well!) and put in an offer. According to the comps, the house was worth about $10-$15,000 more than list, so we offered well over list - partly because it was still well within our budget, and partly because there were 2 other offers on the property! Of course, we had no idea what the other offers were, so we went in as best as we could and hoped for the best.

Fast-forward to 24 hours later (last night) when our realtor called to tell us that they selected another offer.

Needless to say, it's a seller's market around here for sure! The good news for us is that our interest rate is reallllllly low, so assuming we find a home sometime within the next 4(ish) months, we'll be locked in at a historically low rate.

The hunt continues. Tonight we're looking at 2 properties (one of which already has 2 offers) and are hoping to find the right house for us (in the right price, of course).

We're an equal combination of happy/stressed/excited/anxious.... (the list goes on) so wish us luck!

    1. Thanks, Kelly! It's definitely a long (and surprisingly emotional!) process, but eventually we'll find it!

      Good luck to you, too!

  2. Hope this means that as perfect as that house was, there's one that'll fit ALL of your wishlist items. Good luck with the search!

  3. I know it's frustrating when you don't get the first few houses you have been eyeing for, but you should take all the time in the world before actually settling and making an offer on a house. You would be surprised how many more houses are nicer than the first sets of choice you have. Think of it as serendipity. If it's not for you, it will be given to others, and would mean that something else better is waiting for you out there. =D
