Pretty in Pink
Dear baby,
Your daddy & I had a very special night on Monday. Our anatomy ultrasound was coming up in a couple of weeks, but someone recommended that I check out an independent ultrasound facility called "Baby Moments" (located in Webster) that does gender determination and 3D/4D ultrasounds. It cost a little extra money, but not too much - and it was well worth every penny! We arrived early, but were immediately greeted by the woman behind the desk and a sign that said "Welcome mommy-to-be Emily and family." There were beautiful leather couches and a Keurig, so I sipped on hot cocoa and daddy & I took turns playing Bejeweled (one of our favorite iPhone/computer games) while we waited. Another couple was waiting there, as well, and they were called in before us. Not long after they went to the back for their ultrasound, they came back and the mom was drinking orange juice. Her baby wasn't really cooperating, they said, so the sugar in the juice would hopefully help the baby's position. In the meantime, we were called back to a beautiful, large room with a wide comfortable bed, couches for guests to sit on, and a huge flat-screen TV mounted to the wall. The sonographer closed the door, dimmed the lights and played sweet lullaby music in the background as she started prodding at my belly. Right away, we saw you positioned upside down (your head was facing downward and your little legs were sticking up in the air) and we heard the beautiful sound of your heartbeat.
I should interject and say this: the entire time I've been pregnant, I've been convinced that you were a boy. Almost EVERYONE else who offered their suggestion agreed with my instinct. The night before the ultrasound, however, I dreamed that I was getting an ultrasound that revealed that we were having a girl. When I woke up the morning of the ultrasound, I told you daddy about it and stated how weird it would be if my dream came true.
And sure enough, as the woman gently moved the wand around my belly in hopes that you would position yourself appropriately, she said, "Well, I think it's a little girl!" She thinks, but isn't sure, I thought. So she spent many more minutes repositioning you to re-check and after 3 "confirmations," she said that she was 100% sure that we were having a little girl. Shock doesn't quite describe how I felt, as I had been truly convinced that you were a boy. But my joy is overflowing, as is your daddy's, and I can only imagine how beautiful you will be.
While we were there, she transferred the image to 3D/4D and we saw your adorable little hands, which were covering your face, and your little body was all balled up in a comfortable looking position. I hope that you're enjoying your time in there, but I can't wait to meet you in November! We've picked out your name, but aren't going to reveal that to everyone until your birthday.
This weekend is Father's Day and your Aunt Mary's high school graduation, so we're going to visit Nana & Papa in Pennsylvania tomorrow until Saturday and then spend Sunday with Grandpa in Newark. It'll be the perfect time to share with them the wonderful news - that we're expecting a little princess!
I love you already,
Mommy
